Jinx!!!

I knew I shouldn't have written that last post. I hadn't planned on doing it until tomorrow, when I was sure Geddy would be all better. Then he was acting so normal for awhile that I thought I would go ahead and post it. As I concluded the last entry I mentioned that he wanted me to hold him on the couch and watch the Elmo movie. I did and I noticed he was feeling hot again so I gave him Tylenol around 2:30. He dozed off and on while watching the movie (so did I). Then about an hour later he started getting really restless and moaning and then it turned into all out crying and sobbing. He acted like he was going to be sick to his stomach again but he was resisting the urge. After almost two hours of crying he finally got sick and started to feel a little better. But his temperature was quite high. I had called our Dr. but of course he is on vacation. None of the other Dr's. at our clinic had an opening. So we went to a pediatrician here in town that has late hours. Of course the Dr. office had lots of fun toys so Geddy started acting pretty normal. (I always wonder how well they clean those toys in the waiting room considering how many different illnesses go in and out of there each day - I just make sure and use sanitizer on Geddy's hands afterwards). When we saw the Dr. Geddy's temperature was still over 102. The Dr. checked him out and said his throat was extremely red with lots of little white spots. But wait, it is not strep throat, it is hand foot and mouth disease! So it's viral and there's nothing we can do about it except try to keep him hydrated and keep giving him ibuprofen and Tylenol. None of which is easy as his throat hurts too bad. The good news is the Dr. said it should be gone by Monday. It shouldn't affect our trip to California at all. Thankfully he is asleep now after having a pretty good evening. Let's just hope he gets a few hours of sleep before the discomfort wakes him up. Oh yeah, and the Dr. said Geddy was the 7Th kid he had seen today with the same thing. So apparently there is some sort of outbreak here and yes, he said we could blame nursery.

Oh, man. The virus sounds pretty vicious. I'm glad you'll still be able to go on vacation and I hope you have a wonderful time!
