Soccer 2013

Most of his team. I think there were two missing.

He was excited to be able to hold his very own ball in the pictures this year. He loves that ball that Uncle Ken and Aunt Liliana gave him for Christmas last year! It has been well used this past year.

Ready for action. His coach had a hard time deciding whether to keep him on offense - he was one of the only kids to score a goal all season - or put him on defense, because he was really really good on defense and didn't goof around like the other kids.

So proud of him this year for getting more in the thick of things.

 

Though he has this little habit of picking his fingernails while waiting for the ball to come into his zone. I think it was an anxiety thing. At least it was better than the other kids who rolled round in the grass while playing defense instead of watching the ball. Ged kept his eyes on the ball in anticipation of it coming to him.

Many games were under rainy skies and passing thunder storms. He thought it was cool this night to play under a rainbow.

Cocky little guy. He ended up scoring five goals on the season. Three of which were game winners.

Can't remember if this one actually went in or not, but he looks cool in action. Lucky #13!

This was right after scoring a goal. I think he was pretty pleased with himself. He also thought it cool to play under the lights a lot of nights. He thought that felt more professional.

We are all kind of sad soccer ended. Except now it is too cold to sit out there and watch, but I would. He loves soccer almost more than anything. When we came home after the last game while I was helping him take off his cleats and shinguards, he started to cry. When I asked him why he just said he wished he could play soccer every night all year around. He cheered up when I told him he only has a few months until he gets to play basketball on a team for the first time. Now at school he divides him time between playing basketball and soccer at every recess. He says that is the best thing about the big kid playground at school - there are real hoops and real soccer nets. I always tell him I knew he was going to be a soccer player even before he was born. I always joked with Scott that he was practicing soccer in my tummy and boy did he have a hard kick - still does!
