Busy, Busy
We have had a busy week. Grandma Rayne (Lorrayne is a little too much for Geddy to say) and Papa Bruce are here for a few days to celebrate Geddy's 2nd birthday (and Papa Bruce's 61st). They are leaving tomorrow and Geddy will be so sad as he has had a blast playing all sorts of games with Papa Bruce - most involving a ball of some kind. He has enjoyed sharing his comic books and I Spy books with Grandma Rayne. We packed a lot of fun activities into the past four days so I do have lots of pictures that I will soon get downloaded and share with everyone. Tonight Geddy will be excited to see his Grandma Cheryl and Aunt Shauna (Yauna is how he says it). They will spend the rest of the week with us so Geddy's fun times will continue. Just wanted to put a quick entry so you wouldn't think we had disappeared.

"Mama cut hair"
This afternoon Geddy woke up from a 3 1/2 hour nap asking me to "cut hair". I have been talking about it for awhile and just hadn't got around to it. He seemed ready for it as he was tugging on the long part on top while asking me. So I stripped off his shirt and plopped him on a chair and got busy. He wasn't quite as cooperative as he was a couple months ago, but we got it done. It is a lot shorted than I had planned. He kept scrunching up his shoulders because it "tickled". He also kept trying to turn his head around so he could see what I was doing. He didn't quite get it when I told him it just wouldn't work for him to be able to see it. After all was said and done, I really like it. I always think he is more of a smart-aleck with short hair (same as his dad) because you can see more expression with the eyes, eyebrows and forehead exposed. Also I think his ears look pretty darn cute! I did tell Geddy I wasn't sure what his daddy would think of his almost bald head. So as soon as Scott walked through the door Geddy told him "Mama Geddy bald head". Scott thought it turned out quite cute too!
Best part of a haircut-playing in the bath to rinse off all the little hairs.P.S. The big boy bed is going quite well. Only Tuesday night and Wednesday nap have been spent in his crib - neither one for very long. I think he is really getting the hang of it and loves the freedom of so much space. Not to mention that he can sleep with even more stuffed animals now! He has added two more dogs and another frog to his gang of sleeping buddies.

Big Boy + Big Bed = Big Sleep
About a week ago we decided to start trying Geddy in a big bed. He is just getting to long for his crib. Then you add his three blankets and five stuffed animals and there isn't much room for a comfortable sleep. Instead of going out and buying a big bed right away we just opened up the futon that he has been using as a couch in his room. He slept on it part of the first night but hasn't shown much interest in sleeping there since. He does love to play on it and especially to prop himself up on pillows and read his "I Spy" books.
We aren't pushing it just letting him get used to it and we figured he would let us know when he was ready to make the switch. Apparently last night was it! Of course, I was at work so I missed it. Scott went to put him to bed like normal and Geddy insisted he didn't want in his crib. He told his dad he wanted the big bed. So Scott got all of his stuff out of the crib, cleaned the books off the futon and settled Geddy down for the night. A few minutes later Geddy came marching out to the living room. Scott settled him in again and the same thing happened.
After being put back in bed Geddy got up one more time and just opened and closed his door a few times. Knowing he was just testing his new freedom, Scott put him back in bed a third time but told him if he didn't stay in bed and fall asleep then he would have to be put in his crib because it was sleepy time. That did it because we didn't hear a peep out of him until 7am this morning.

He is showing me how he slept.
That equalled about ten hours of sleep. I wasn't sure what he was going to want for his nap though. Toys and such are much more tempting when it is light outside. But nap time rolled around and Geddy gathered his Nama blankie (yellow one his Grandma Lorrayne made him) and a book and got up on his big bed. I gave him a kiss and shut the door. I heard him rustling around for about five minutes, but he never got off the bed. I gave him about half an hour to fall deep asleep before sneaking in to take this picture.

He is really asleep in this one.
It's not very clear because I didn't want to use a flash and risk waking him up. That was about an hour and a half ago and he is still sleeping. I am not expecting this to make him a perfect sleeper, or even to be full time in the big bed now. But it is definitely a big step in the right direction.

More from July 4th weekend
I finally bought Geddy a little pool over the weekend of the 4th. He sees the hard plastic ones every time we go into a store and he wants one. There is no way one of those would fit in our car. Luckily I was able to find this blow up one at Wal-Mart. I just about passed out blowing the whole thing up, but it was worth it. Geddy loves it!

July 4th

I guess our 4th of July fun actually started on June 28 with the Children's Parade in Provo. The library had a bunch of kids show up wearing their lovely bright orange bug T-Shirts and we walked as a group for the short 6 block parade. Geddy wasn't too sure about it at first, but once he got a balloon bug and a Popsicle he was happy. And being a typical boy he was very excited to see all the fire engines, ambulance and police cars with their lights flashing and sirens going off. He also enjoyed the marching bands, especially the bass drums.
This was the first year Scott and I purchased fireworks. We don't usually do much for the 4th except go to a movie and avoid downtown Provo. Now that we have Geddy we thought we would get into the spirit of things a bit more. So Friday afternoon we took Geddy to see Wall-E at the theater (he calls it Bots - as in Robots). He loves going to movies and we don't mind as long as he sleeps through half of it. It would have been nice though if the theater had bothered using the air conditioner, it was hot just sitting there, but when you have a sleeping almost-2-year-old on top of you it is quite uncomfortably hot. After the movie we did some shopping and went to one of the plethora of fireworks stands to get a few little things. We didn't want anything to big and crazy as we weren't sure how he would react. We picked out some of the ground flowers, black snakes, and one big one - a parachute man shoots out and we had planned on Geddy keeping the man. Then Geddy saw some Dice and was quite adamant about getting them so we did. We spent a whopping $7 on fireworks but we figured it was enough for his first time.
This is how he reacted to each firework. He was laughing and still watching, but every time they popped or sent lots of lights up this is how he would act.
He was very disappointed that the wind stole his parachute guy. We saw it blast into the sky but the wind took it through several backyards quite a distance from our house. We figure it got stuck in some trees. Geddy has been quite bothered by it and keeps mentioning the "hot guy go bye-bye". "hot" is what he says for fireworks. He had so much fun the first night that we spent a couple more dollars at Wal-Mart the next day and bought "hot eye balls" and some small colorful fountains. The "hot eye balls" spun around and popped and threw sparks, they were quite a hit with our little guy as were the "hot dice". So Grandma and Grandpa beware, we will probably be doing more when you are here as they are allowed during Pioneer Day also.
