Rocky

I honestly don't know why it has been so long since I have blogged. We have done things that are "blog-worthy". Plus I haven't even blogged about last summer's vacation yet and here it is almost a new summer. Hopefully I can make up for it in the next little while.

I finally broke down and got another cat. Geddy and I were visiting Petsmart while we waited for Scott to get done with work. We have done this dozens of times and enjoyed visiting all the cute cats but never had a problem leaving or feeling like we needed to adopt one. This time was different. Geddy and this 9 month old orange and white cat connected almost instantly. Geddy burst into tears at the thought of leaving the store and someone else coming and taking him. My heart started to melt when I had finally succeeded in moving Geddy away from the cat's cage only to have the cat reach his paw out and grab hold of Geddy's jacket. When Geddy looked back at him the cat meowed almost as if to say, "Where are you going? Don't leave me!" So we had the manager put an "almost home" sign on the cat so no one else could steal him. We talked to Scott and decided it would be okay to get the little guy. The biggest reason was that instead of their normal $80 adoption fee, he was only $40. And he already had all of his shots and was fixed.

And that is how Rocky became part of our family. I must note that the shelter had his name listed as "Barnaby". Geddy thought that was the dumbest name to give any cat, especially this one who didn't answer to it anyhow. So he quickly named him Rocky. This name fits him well as he likes to box anything and everything - though he does a great job of keeping his claws in. He is a very unique cat yet he reminds us of Spanky in some ways. The funniest thing about Rocky is that he LOVES water. The moment he hears someone move the shower curtain he is there waiting to be doused in water - no matter what the temperature is. He is fascinated by drains, even the garbage disposal while it is running. He loves climbing in the dishwasher as I load it. But his most favorite thing is the toilet. He has even pushed open the door that wasn't closed all the way and tried getting in the toilet while one of the boys was using it. So he has his little quirks, but we love him and he has fit right in to our home without any problem. He is the most patient, unafraid cat I have ever seen. Geddy's constant movement and noise doesn't phase him at all. Geddy sometimes seems to forget he is a living creature, not his stuffed kitty and likes to pick him up and lug him around putting him wherever he wants, even if it isn't where the cat wants to be. Rocky doesn't mind, he seems to enjoy going along for the ride.

Here are pictures. Many have been posted on facebook already. But they are adorable so enjoy them again.

Love it!!! If we weren't renting, Brian would have come home from Petco with a dog as well as crickets for the geckos last week. The puppy (well, he was 2 I think Brian said) was there with his sister and she got adopted. Brian picked him up and he just cuddled up to Brian. He didn't ask if he was used to cats (though Shadow doesn't do much anymore except sleep and eat and lie in the sunshine...guess she's earned it at 14) and kids. He got the contact info. for the foster mom and if he isn't adopted when (if) we get our house next month, he might find a home. I'd rather have another cat :)
