Salt Lake Comic Con Insanity

Riding the Frontrunner train from Provo to Salt Lake City. Geddy didn't know about this part of the trip until we got to the station. He loved it!

Geddy didn't even know about the Comic Con until that morning, but he got into the spirit of things by wearing his Flash costume. Though despite having pre-paid for our tickets weeks in advance and having a supposed "quick pass", we ended up waiting in line for almost two hours before we even got in the door. Thank goodness it wasn't raining yet and it wasn't one of the hottest days we've had this summer.

There wasn't much room to move around. This apparently was the biggest convention in Utah history. I guess it was also the largest inaugural comic con in the US according to this article in the Deseret News.

 

Geddy thought it was cool that someone had dressed up as Deadpool, one of Marvel's lesser known characters. Thought the real character is in better shape than this guy.

There was a very cool Lord of the Rings display.

Geddy found the Emperor, who he insists was the real thing who had traveled from Coruscant just for the Comic Con.

Lots of people! And this is actually later in the day when it was less crowded.

 

Later at a local bookstore after we got caught in the rainstorm.

It was fun, but there were a lot of problems with their organization. Not sure if we will go next year or not. There were a lot of celebrities there, but you had to pay a lot of money to get their photos or autographs. Others like Stan Lee and William Shatner were behind curtains so you couldn't even see them unless you paid money. Though we did get a glimpse of Shatner in a golf cart as they took him to a room where he was speaking. Others there were Adam West and Burt Ward - Ged had a hard time believing those old men were the same guys from the show that he loves. Lou Ferigno looked like a nice guy, but his line was quite long. Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo were there along with lots of others that we didn't really care about. I am glad for the sake of the city and the state that it was a success. It just could have been better.
