Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!!!!

Geddy and I had planned on doing a "Mommy and Ged Summer School" this year. Due to many complications things haven't quite gone as planned. However, we have covered a few topics. We studies birds for a few weeks which included field trips to Salem Pond and a couple different parks in Provo to go birdwatching. We next decided to talk about bugs because as Geddy phrased it, "Bugs are next because birds eat bugs".
After looking through several bug books Geddy made a three page list of bugs he wanted to look for in our backyard and on various field trips. He did a fabulous job copying their names out of the books! Then we had fun turning over rocks and boards around the house finding some of these lovely creepy-crawlies. We dug holes in the wanna-be-garden to find others.

One of the bug books told us how to make a trap to catch night-time bugs. We thought it sounded fun so we attempted it.  Here is Geddy digging the hole to set the trap in.

Here is the trap filled with a bit of cheese, ham and lettuce to lure the bugs in.

The board on top of stones allows room for the creatures to crawl in, but supposedly they won't be able to climb up the sides of the tub or fly out of it.

All done! (Rocks on top keep it from being flipped over).
Now for the big question: What did we catch?
ANTS!!!!!!
That was it. Uh, we can catch ants in the daytime. So this "night-time bug trap" was a big flop! Oh well, we had fun doing it.
