Swimming Lessons - Day One

So Geddy has known he was going to be taking swimming lessons for several months. He has been all over the map in terms of excitement for this great new adventure. Some days he can't wait, others he swears he will never do such a thing until he is at least 9. Last week we went to Wal-Mart and he picked out a big beach towel and a new pair of trunks - thank goodness he didn't pick the Spongebob ones:). Today was the big day. Last night he was so excited he didn't even want to go to bed. This morning he had completely changed his tune. When I told him it was time to get ready he started crying and saying I was the worst mom and couldn't make him do it if he didn't want to. After calmly telling him that he was going no matter what and promising him a Happy Meal if he did a good job, he let me get him ready. Reluctance held out until the moment the teacher called his name.

He went right over, grabbed her hand and never looked back. In fact, he didn't even look to see where I was until he sneezed and needed a tissue fifteen minutes into the class. (Silly mom should have known to bring tissues - he is just getting over a sinus infection - oh well, his T-shirt worked just fine). He did fabulous in his class. He even dunked his whole head under which he never does when I take him to the pool to play. He was the first to volunteer to try everything with the teacher - and he only splashed the girls in his class two or three times until his teacher got after him.

Then class was up and Geddy decided to cry because he didn't want to leave. The teacher promised him he could come back tomorrow and every day for the next two weeks, so he finally got out of the pool and came to me. I am so proud of him for being a brave big boy (almost 4!) and trying something he was a bit afraid of.
