Geddy has been able to write his first name for several months now. However, he isn't usually too concerned about it actually looking like his name. He thinks as long as he writes the letters down in the proper order it shouldn't matter where on the paper they are. He is getting better at that. Also, his Ds usually look more like Os. He has been working hard the past few weeks to improve.
And yes, he knows his G looks a lot like a 6.
The other day he asked how to spell his whole name. So as I listed off the letters he wrote them down:
I helped him a little with the S (in Scott), but that is the only one my hand came anywhere near.
He is taking a huge interest in how words are spelled and tries to sound out words all the time. He is determined to be reading books by himself as soon as possible. I keep telling him there is no rush, yet at the same time I don't want to kill his desire. So we mostly play reading and spelling and writing games. So he is actually learning a lot, but it is fun for both of us. I have a hard time helping him write because he is a lefty. I never know for sure how to have him hold the pen. I just let him do what comes naturally to him and it seems to be working.
This is one of Scott's and my favorite drawings that Geddy has done. It is a family portrait he did several months ago. See if you can guess which is Scott, me, Geddy and Spanky? He has improved his people drawing skills a lot since this was drawn. Though he still doesn't give anyone bodies. He now adds eyebrows, different mouths (open, teeth, tongue), and the eyes are much more detailed. I couldn't find where he has been putting his drawings lately to show you a recent example.

I love the picture...this stage of their drawing is so fun!!! Everyone looks like aliens :) Nathaniel drew something quite similar last week...on his dresser! Red marker meet white dresser - thank goodness Crayola markers are all washable nowadays! First time he's ever written on something besides paper. Good job on the writing too - it's so hard to teach lefties!
Way to go, Geddy! And I love the costume. :)
Great drawing...love your hair, Carol..( ; and he's been doing an awesome job with his writing. cool stuff!
